Welcome to Villijoali

Villijoali is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered under the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Republic of Maldives. Since inception, we have been promoting and upholding specific values which we envision for a community where everyone finds a sense of belonging.

Our Core Values

Inclusivity

Caring

Resilience

Our primary mission is to advocate for and build an inclusive community. Our organization is open to everyone—membership and involvement are not limited to locals or any specific group. We are a community that welcomes all.

From the very beginning, we have conducted several programs to create opportunities for socialization and strengthen bonds within our community. These activities are designed to be inclusive, particularly for marginalized groups such as persons with disabilities.

Programs

Villijoali Social Club

Eight years ago, we started the Villijoali Social Club, a community gathering that takes place every Friday afternoon from 4:15 PM to 6:00 PM. The club was created to provide a welcoming space for our community to come together, socialize, and end the week on a positive note. Each gathering is designed to be enjoyable and inclusive, with activities such as sharing tea, playing a friendly sport, visiting exhibitions or simply relaxing at the community center.

Parent Support Group

This program is specifically designed for parents of persons with disabilities (PWDs). It connects them with experts from diverse fields such as inclusive education, healthcare, mental wellness, and community empowerment, who lead informative sessions tailored to their needs. In addition, monthly meetings offer a supportive space where parents can share experiences, provide encouragement to one another, and build a strong, reliable support network.

“Kulhisama” Sports Program

Through this program, we invite athletes from various sports to interact with our team, offering them valuable exposure and the opportunity to actively engage in the athletes' respective sports during each meet-up.

"Magey Veshi" Program

This program features activities such as clean-up drives and environmental awareness sessions for volunteers. As part of these efforts, we have planted several coconut palms across Villimale' to enhance shaded areas and increase the number of fruit-bearing trees on the island.

"Haalu kihine" Program

The main focus of this initiative is to engage in meaningful conversations with island residents, particularly the elderly and marginalized groups, including migrant workers. It is conducted informally during Villijoali's Friday outings.

We also do our part in representing our values in stakeholder meetings for various policy and program implementation discussions.
We invite passionate and committed individuals to join us as volunteers to help sustain and grow these programs.

Together, we can continue to build a more inclusive and caring community
